Carnival Liberty | A Carnival Cruise Line Ship Tour Part II

Last time we took a look at some of the public spaces on Carnival Liberty, a Carnival Cruise Line ship. Today we will look at a few of the cabins and information about them. This first picture is inside the cruise terminal in Miami. I loved the glass sculpture overhead with the Carnival colors and the undulating glass. This terminal has high ceilings although the terminal itself was packed with passengers, all of whom I felt bad for as they were in these horrendously long lines. We were there around 11-11:30 am and the lines were what I would expect later in the day. Therefore, my advice of the day is to arrive earlier than you might expect to and try to beat the rush in the Miami cruise terminal if you want to avoid the extremely long lines.

Cabins: First up on our cabin tour was an inside cabin (2257), category 4B on Main deck 2. With two twin beds that convert into a king, this basic inside cabin measures 185 square feet in total. That’s somewhat larger than its mass market cruise line competitors’ cabins. If you aren’t looking for a room with a view, but rather a place to rest your head in between all the fun you’ll have on board, then this might be the cabin for you. Some people don’t like having a window because they want to be able to sleep in without the daylight streaming into the room to wake them. Read the rest of this entry »

Cruising with Technology

There was a time in the past when going on a cruise meant that you were far removed from everyone including your work. No phones, no follow up, just time to sit back and enjoy your vacation. These days we have the luxury of not only going online in our ship’s internet cafe or kiosk, but we can use the ship’s wifi and even our smartphones. I was reading a post on the Focus on Fun blog about this very topic.

In one of my earlier blog posts, I gave instructions on how to turn 3G off on your phone to save money. If you need to have your phone on, consider leaving it on for emergency calls or even texts, but skip surfing the web altogether unless you like those hefty phone bills. We always try to find an internet cafe in port and spend a little time there checking email and anything else we need to do for a few dollars instead of several dollars per minute. I know the cruise lines offer “great” deals on internet packages, but I can’t justify spending hundreds of dollars on the internet for a slow connection when I am on vacation. Can you?

Carnival Liberty | A Carnival Cruise Line Ship Tour Part I

This past week I had the opportunity to attend CLIA cruise3sixty, the industry’s largest yearly conference. One of the highlights is the ability to do a ship inspection and I had the opportunity to do five while in Florida. One of the ships I was able to visit was Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Liberty.

Built in Italy, Carnival Liberty entered service in 2005. With 13 decks and a capacity of 2,974 passengers and 1,160 crew, she is not a small ship by any means. The Carnival Liberty is the fourth ship in the Conquest class from Carnival Cruises. She was the first Carnival ship to feature Carnival‘s Seaside Theater, a 12-foot high by 22-foot wide LED screen with a 70,000-watt sound system. The theater is located on the Lido deck by the midship pool and is used to show movies, sporting events, concerts, etc. Read the rest of this entry »
